Raise awareness

Every year 640 Australians, including many children, are hospitalised in potentially life-threatening conditions because the early warning signs of type 1 diabetes are missed.

Kirsty鈥檚 story is too common:

鈥淢y daughter, Molly, was eight when she was diagnosed in hospital. It was terrifying, seeing my child laying there like that. I felt guilty, I thought how did I not know what all those symptoms meant? I kept thinking, maybe if I had acted earlier, I could have prevented it. But we 诲颈诲苍鈥檛 know. 罢丑补迟鈥檚 why I want to spark change to raise awareness of the early warning signs of type 1 diabetes.鈥�

Early detection reduces the need for expensive hospitalisations and improves outcomes.

Australia needs a national education campaign so that everyone knows the 4Ts 鈥� toilet, thirsty, tired, thinner 鈥� the early warning signs of type 1 diabetes. If people know the signs, we can ensure people are diagnosed early.
