About the Insulin Pump Program The Australian Government established the Insulin Pump Program in 2008 The Insulin Pump Program provides fully subsidised insulin pumps to eligible children and young adults under 21 years of age with type 1 diabetes. The program helps improve access to diabetes technology for people who meet the financial and clinical eligibility requirements. Eligibility for the Insulin Pump Program To apply for an insulin pump through the program, the following eligibility criteria must be met: The person who will receive the pump is under 21 years of age The combined annual income is $123,078 or less The person who will receive the pump does not have access to an insulin pump through private health insurance The person who will receive the pump is eligible for Medicare The person who will receive the pump is an Australian or New Zealand citizen residing in Australia. Permanent residents, or people who have applied to become permanent residents, may also be eligible. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee you will receive an insulin pump through the program. Recipients may be eligible to apply for a replacement pump if they continue to meet the program criteria. Recipients who received their insulin pumps under the Program between their 17th and 18th birthday (inclusive) can lodge an application for a new pump prior to the expiry of their pump warranty.
